---------I was staying 3 nights in Dover. Canterbury was a day trip, plus a ferry trip to Calais France, and day in Dover, seeing the Castle and Roman Lighthouse.---------I took the train from London Victoria to Dover in the month of July, taking 2 hours. The train from Dover to Canterbury East took 28 minutes. The day trip by ferry from Dover to Calais France took 90 minutes each way.

I vaguely knew about Thomas Beckett. I didn't realize that there were two Archbishops and that one of them wasn't in London.

The Archbishop of York lives in Bishopthorpe Palace in Bishopthorpe village next to York Racecourse. Today 1st Oct , the present Archbishop has said he will retire in 2020. York is my home city,.

I have been here once - a long time ago. It was a lovely city but I don't remember it clearly. I'm obviously due a revisit. All the best, Irene

I'll have to add Canterbury to my to-do list. We just got back from York. Beautiful cathedral.
